International activities
The main tasks of JSC RusHydro in the sphere of international co-operation are:
· representation of the interests of the Company and the Russian hydro-power industry on the international political, industrial and business stage;
· bilateral co-operation with foreign electric power supply, design and engineering companies;
· co-operation with international inter-governmental organisations, industry and business associations;
· promotion of the raising of foreign investments into new and promising projects of the Company;
· organisation of co-operation in the sphere of exchange of experience, innovations and new technologies relating to the hydro-power industry and Renewable Energy Sources;
· promotion of integration of the Company into the global energy community;
· development of interaction with foreign information agencies and mass media for the purpose implementating the Company’s unified information policy;
· analytical activities relating to monitoring of the processes taking place in the global electric power industry.
In 2006, JSC RusHydro took an active part in the work of international industry and business associations:
· Non-commercial partnership Russia-China Business Council: co-operation with electric power companies in exchanging experience, studying a project for exporting Russian electric power to China, preparing meetings and trips at the inter-governmental and corporate levels;
· Non-commercial partnership Russia-India Business Council: holding of preliminary consultations regarding membership of the Company in the Business Council, participation in a series of meetings with representatives of Indian business, studying of the development experience of the hydro-power industry and Renewable Energy Sources;
· Within the scope of interaction with the International Commission on Large Dams (ICLD), the JSC RusHydro delegation participated in the 74th Executive Committee and the 22nd International Congress of the International Commission on Large Dams in Barcelona, Spain (15-23 June, 2006), as well as the 75th meeting of the International Commission on Large Dams (St. Petersburg, 25-27 June, 2007);
· JSC RusHydro is considering the possibility of joining and actively collaborating with the International Hydropower Association (IHA), the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Edison Electric Institute (EEI).
Regarding co-operation with foreign companies, in 2006 bilateral work was carried out in the sphere of developing partnership relations and exchanging experience with the biggest foreign power companies, such as: Statkraft, Enel, Verbund, Hydro-Quebec, EDF, Norsk Hydro and so on. Representatives of the Company worked on committees of the European Union of the Electricity Industry (EURELECTRIC).
For the purpose of promoting a favourable corporate image of JSC RusHydro and of the hydro-power industry as a whole among the international community, Company representatives took part in international industry, inter-governmental, business and investment events, as well as scientific conferences and forums.
In addition, in the reporting year, active work was carried out on information collaboration with international hydro-power industry publishing houses, such as Aqua-Media International (the journal Hydropower and Dams) and HCI publication (the journal Hydro Review), as well as international information agencies. Material about the Company came out on the Reuters, Bloomberg, Dow Jones, Platts, and Global Insight Daily Analysis agency wires.
The Company’s managers are working to study the experience of development of the hydro-power industry and Renewable Energy Sources throughout the world. Active work is under way to analyse various international regulation systems and the necessary institutional prerequisites for implementing promising investment projects in the sphere of the hydro-power industry and Renewable Energy Sources. Within the scope of the given sphere of international co-operation, business meetings are held with representatives of state structures and business for the purpose of establishing a better understanding of industry development processes on a global scale.
