On 5 April 2008, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and executive secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Marek Belka, made a short visit to the Novosibirskaya HPP, — an affiliate of JSC RusHydro. The delegation also included Susan Bartolo, Chef de Cabinet, Office of the Executive Secretary, UNECE, Andrei Vasiliyev, Director of the UNECE Committee for economic cooperation and integration, and Second Secretary of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department for International Organizations V. Uskov.

The purpose of the visit by the important guests to Novosibirsk was to acquaint themselves with the scientific, technological, trade, economic and cultural potential of the Novosibirsk Region. Marek Belka met with region Governor, Viktor Tolokonsky, Deputy Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Russian Federation President in the Siberian Federal District Anatoly Kvashnin, and Novosibirsk Mayor Vladimir Gorodestsky.

The delegation was greeted at the power plant by the Director of the affiliate, Viktor Sershun. The important guests were interested in the technical upgrading and environmental protection aspects of the energy business. Sershun told them about the deployment of the environmental management system at the power plant. "We have many young specialists working here and the parent company focuses particular attention on their training and development," he noted. According to the guests, their visit to the Novosibirskaya HPP gave the impression of a steadily developing production company.

Previously, in Moscow, the delegation had met with Deputy Chairman of the RusHydro Management Board Vasily Zubakin to discuss plans for interaction between the hydro-generating company and the UNECE. The visit to the Novosibirskaya HPP was a logical continuation of the meeting in Moscow.
