Unique Method of Seepage Processes Monitoring has been Worked out in JSC "Institute Hydroproject" Branch

Unique method of geoelectrical studies for monitoring seepage processes in rock-fill dam embankment during reservoir impounding has been worked out in "Geodynamic Research Centre for Power Industry -  Institute Hydroproject".  The method was represented to the scientific community at the Conference "Engineering Geophysics 2012" in  Gelendzhik in the scientific report of Oleg Kozlov, PhD (Tech. Sc.), Chief Geophysicist ("Geodynamic Research Centre for Power Industry -  Institute Hydroproject").


At the Conference Oleg Kozlov represented the results of mathematical simulation and field measurements obtained in the course of investigation of seepage processes in rock-fill dam embankment  with assistance of the specialists of "Geodynamic Research Centre for Power Industry -  Institute Hydroproject"  and Geological Department of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. Basing on the investigations carried out by the specialists of  "Geodynamic Research Centre for Power Industry -  Institute Hydroproject"   the unique undisturbed method of seepage processes development  during the reservoir impoundment was worked out which does not affect the dam under monitoring.   


In practice the method identifies the optimum arrangement of electrodes in the dam transition layers, drainage gallery as well as in the separate structural elements of the rock-fill dam embankment.  The results of field investigations and mathematical simulation were used for preparation  of recommendations for all cycles of geoelectrical studies.  The above method is advantageous in precision, operational efficiency and high resolution capability.


The report outlining these studies and method itself was made special mention as one of the best reports at the Conference   "Engineering Geophysics 2012".  The method of geoelectrical studies will be tested for monitoring seepage processes in the Boguchany rock-fill dam embankment  in the reservoir impoundment period. 


The report ▒Electrotomography capability for monitoring seepage processes  in the rock-fill dam embankment during reservoir impoundment" has been prepared in co-authorship with Igor Modin, Dr.Sc. (phys.-math.), Dmitry Bolshakov, PhD. (phys.-math.), from Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, Geological Department.  8 Scientific-Practical Conference "Engineering Geophysics 2012"  was organized by EAGE and focused on the specialists involved in site investigations, shallow geophysics, ecology, orebody geophysics, soil studies. Both, the theoretical aspects and practical application of geophysical methods and results of studies in the field of site investigations were heared at the Conference.
