RusHydro to install 1.3 MW solar panels at Nizhne-Bureyskaya hydropower plant

January 30, Moscow, Russia. PJSC RusHydro (ticker symbol: MOEX, LSE: HYDR; OTCQX: RSHYY) announces pilot solar project on Nizhne-Bureyskaya HPP.


The 1.275 MW solar plant with expected annual production of 1.4 GWh will be commissioned in the end of 2019. The solar plant will reduce cost of electricity for the HPP’s own needs thus unlocking additional output by the hydroelectric plant.


The PV modules manufactured by Hevel with overall area of 6,700 square meters will be installed on the site of the HPP.  


The Amur region with 240 sunny days in a year is ideal for development of PV generation. The ground-filled dam of Nizhne-Bureyskaya HPP has 30,000 square meters of open unshadowed space and the tailrace slope of the dam is facing South-West, making it an optimal location for capturing solar energy.


The plant will use heterojunction solar modules manufactured in Russia with unit capacity of 370 W. The new generation PV panels have an efficiency rating of over 23%, or 20% more efficient than traditional polysilicon panels and are equally operational under both, low and high outdoor temperatures.


Nizhne-Bureyskaya HPP in the Amur region is the second plant of the Bureysky hydropower complex and acts as counter-regulator for Bureyskaya HPP. The plant’s  installed capacity and long-run average annual generation is 320MW and 1,670 mn kWh, respectively
