RusHydro launches first EV charging station in the Amur region in the Far East

November 28, 2019 Blagoveshensk, Russia. PJSC RusHydro (ticker symbol: MOEX, LSE: HYDR; OTCQX: RSHYY) announces inauguration of the first EV charging station in the Amur Region. The opening ceremony took place at the Amur Economic Forum.

With 258 electric vehicles (EV), the Amur region is among the top five regions of Russia where the highest number of EVs is concentrated. The demand for EVs is high as the region is exempt from transportation tax on electric vehicles. As a result, EV ownership in the region grows 2x annually. Nonetheless, absence of charging stations deter many residents from buying EVs.

The new charging station is located near the Social and Cultural Center, the site of Amur Economic Forum. During the demo-trial phase, motorists can charge at no cost and test the functions and capabilities the station. A mobile application is available as well. By the end of the year, RusHydro plans to install two additional EV charging stations at shopping center parking lots and one at JSC DEK Integrated processing center scheduled to open in the nearest-term.

An agreement on development of EV transportation was signed at the Amur Economic Forum between Nikolay Shulginov, Chairman of the Management Board – General Director of RusHydro and Vasily Orlov, governor of the Amur region. Both parties agreed to draft and implement the program on development of EV transportation, including public transportation (electro buses) as well as its infrastructure in the region. RusHydro already has experience of operating EV charging stations in the Far East Federal District.

During the opening ceremony Dmitry Belyaev, Director of Strategy and IR of RusHydro pointed out that the company’s new line of business is not only driven by high demand from EV enthusiasts but more so by the desire to develop modern environmental-friendly transportation.

He then added: “Environmental responsibility is among the core priorities for RusHydro as the country’s largest generating company. Our environmental policy aims for increasing installed capacity of low-carbon generating facilities and reduction of GHG emissions in absolute and specific terms. High hydropower generation’s share in the power balance of UES of East provides for development of EV transportation by substituting traditional internal combustion autos. With that in mind, the company reduces its environmental footprint and contributes to a cleaner future”.

RusHydro launched the first chain of EV charging stations in September in Primorsky Krai. Since then over a thousand charges took place and numerous positive reviews were left only further confirming high demand for such service as well as opportunities for its further expansion.

The company pays extra attention to the development of EV charging stations in the Far East. Primorky Krai, Amur region and Khabarovsky Krai are among the priority regions. RusHydro’s ultimate goal is to develop a chain of charging stations to allow for safe EV travelling between the largest cities of the Far East.

RusHydro-operated stations have the advantage of supporting fast charging regime, providing for battery top-up in just a few minutes and a full charge in less than 30 minutes.  The stations also support a range of charging connectors, allowing charging of two vehicles simultaneously including: Japanese standard (DC) 50 kW, European standard (DC) 50 kW, connector Type 1/Type 2 (AC), 22 kW. Payment is available via mobile application.

The company developed a separate website (charge.rushydro.ru) where its EV charging stations’ clients can get additional information on the project itself, instructions on vehicle charging, rates, FAQs and other important information.
