RusHydro commissions Ust-Dzhegutinskaya small-scale hydropower plant
November 10, Moscow, Russia. PJSC RusHydro (ticker symbol: MOEX, LSE: HYDR; OTCQX: RSHYY) announces inauguration of 5.6 MW Ust-Dzhegutinskaya small-scale hydropower plant in Karachay-Cherkessia Republic. Andrey Kazachenkov, First Deputy Director General of RusHydro and Rashid Temrezov, Head of Karachay-Cherkessia Republic, took part in the opening ceremony.
To date, this is the second facility built under the capacity supply agreement (DPM) for renewables. Earlier in June, RusHydro has commissioned 10MW Verkhnebalkarskaya small-scale hydropower plant in Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. By the end of year, RusHydro plans to bring online one more facility – 5.25 MW Barsuchkovskaya small scale HPP in Stavropol region.
Andrey Kazachenkov, First Deputy Director General of RusHydro commented: “Launch of Ust-Dzhegutinskaya small-scale HPP is another step in hydropower development in the region. So far we have commissioned three facilities in the region and are on track to bring online two Krasnogorskiye small HPPs with combined installed capacity of 49.8 MW. The new power plants will contribute to reduction of electricity shortage in the region and provide stable and clean electricity production.”
Rashid Temrezov, Head of Karachay-Cherkessia Republic added: “Hydropower development remains one of the region’s priorities. New and existing facilities are not only safe and environmentally friendly, but create additional jobs and provide for stable tax inflows into the region’s budget.” With that, he thanked RusHydro’s team for their hard work and contribution to power development in the region.
With annual average electricity output of 25 GWh the facility if situated in the same-name region on the Kuban River. The dam constructed back in 1962 provides water pressure to the turbines. Such design helped decrease construction costs as the station uses water previously discharged through the spillway. The facility engineered by Hydroproject institute is equipped with two 2.8 MW vertical hydropower units with radial-axial turbines rated at 31 meters. The electricity is supplied into the power system via 6kV power lines to Golovnaya substation.
Ust-Dzhegutinskaya HPP is one of the five small-scale hydropower plants constructed by RusHydro in the North Caucasus Federal District as the region provides ideal natural conditions for small-scale hydro development. All five facilities (Verkhnebalkarskaya, Ust-Dzhegutinskaya, Barsuchkovskaya and Karasnogorskaya 1 and 2) are built with guaranteed return on investment under capacity supply agreements (DPM) for renewables.
Total installed capacity of hydropower plants operating in Karachay-Cherkessia Republic is 306.86 MW, including a unique Zelenchugskaya HPP-PSHPP which encompasses both, a hydropower plant and a pumped storage power plant.
