RusHydro will build three small hydropower plants in the Northern Caucasus
September 22, 2021, Moscow, Russia. PJSC RusHydro (ticker symbol: MOEX, LSE: HYDR; OTCQX: RSHYY) announces successful completion of competitive selection of investment projects for construction of generating facilities on renewable energy sources (DPM for renewables). New small hydropower plants will be erected in the Northern Caucasus in areas suffering from energy shortages in 2027-2028.
Verkhnebaksanskaya small HPP with 23.2 MW of installed capacity will be situated in Karbarnio-Balkarian Republic on the Adyr-Su River. Since the river has a number of knickpoints the hydropower plant will utilize a derivation system with 400 meter-high water pressure, the second highest following Zaramagskaya HPP. The small HPP will also be one of the few hydropower plants in Russia to employ Pelton-type turbines. RusHydro will bring the facility online in 2027.
Nikhaloyskaya small HPP will be RusHydro’s second facility in the Chechen Republic with 23 MW of installed capacity. The hydropower plant will be located in the mountainous region of Itum-Kalinsk on the Argun River slightly below Bashennaya small HPP, which RusHydro plants to inaugurate in 2024. The water devoid of sand following passage through Bashannaya small HPP will flow directly via derivation to Nikhaloyskaya HPP. Such engineering decision allows skipping construction of the water-intake facility improving the efficiency of the power plant. The Company plans to complete construction and bring onboard the facility in 2027.
Mogokhskaya small hydro with 49.8 MW of installed capacity will be constructed in Dagestan on the Avarskoye Koisu River. The facility will utilize the hydropower potential of the river between Gotsatlinskaya and Irganayskaya hydropower plants. The station is engineered using the dam-derivation system including 20 meter dam and derivation via tunnel pipeline. It is scheduled for commissioning in 2028.
The above mentioned facilities mark another step in development of small hydro in the Northern Caucasus Federal District with favorable condition for such facilities. Earlier, RusHydro brought online Verkhnebalkarskaya, Ust-Dzhegutinskaya and Barsuchkovskaya small hydropower plants. The Company is currently in the process of constructing Krasnogorskaya 1 and 2 and Bashennaya small HPPs. Engineering of Psygansu small HPP is almost completed as well.
RusHydro’s small HPPs have successfully passed competitive selection of investment projects for construction of generating facilities using renewable energy sources with guaranteed return on ivestment (DPM for renewables).
