JSC RusHydro (ticker symbol: MOEX, LSE: HYDR; OTCQX: RSHYY), RAO Energy Systems of the East in cooperation with Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd (Japan) plan to launch a pilot complex of liquefied hydrogen production plant (LHP) in Magadan region in 2019.

The planned capacity of the plant will amount to 11.3 tonnes of hydrogen per day. The launch of the whole industrial complex with the capacity of 200 tonnes of hydrogen per day and power consumption in the amount of up to 510 MW is scheduled for 2026. Currently, the parties conduct feasibility studies of the project, determine the location for construction and funding sources.

RusHydro together with RAO ES of the East will supply electricity to the enterprise in terms of the existing plans for development of grid infrastructure in Magadan. Sergey Tolstoguzov, member of the Management Board of RusHydro, General Director of RAO ES of the East, commented: “The construction of LHP will enable to increase the load of the Kolymskaya and Ust’-Srednekanskaya HPPs, as well as eliminate electricity glut in the sub-region, and will also allow to reduce the average electricity tariff for local consumers”.

In June of 2013, RusHydro, RAO Energy Systems of the East and Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd signed the agreement on construction of a plant that will produce liquefied hydrogen in the Russian Far East. RusHydro Group together with Kawasaki Heavy Industries plan to produce liquefied hydrogen in Magadan region with its further transportation to Japan.
