Projects in the field of solar energy are also being implemented by RusHydro in the Far East in order to provide energy supply to remote settlements isolated from the united power grid. Sakhaenergo (part of the RusHydro group) successfully operates 23 SPP with a total capacity of 2.935 MW. In 2015, under an agreement with the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the largest transpolar solar power plant with capacity of 1 MW was built in the Batagay settlement of the Verkhoyansky District of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). SPP in the Batagay settlement is also listed in the Guinness book of records as the northernmost solar power plant in the world. The annual diesel fuel savings of all commissioned solar power plants is more than 460 tons.
In 2019, solar panels with a capacity of 1,275 kW were commissioned in the Amur region on the territory of the Nizhne-Bureyskaya HPP. This is the first project in Russia to create a combined hydro-solar generation. Generation of solar panels is used to meet the own needs of the Nizhne-Bureyskaya HPP, which increases the net generation by the plant. Also, the first floating solar power plant in Russia was commissioned at the Nizhne-Bureyskaya HPP in 2020.
Further development of RusHydro's solar energy industry is envisaged in Yakutia and the Kamchatka territory under the mechanism of energy service contracts that provide for the construction of integrated energy complexes at the expense of investors, including solar panels, high-efficiency diesel power plants and energy storage systems. The first such contracts were concluded in 2020.
