RUSHYDRO COMPLETED COMPLEX MODERNIZATION OF MAYNSKAYA HPP

12 march 2024

RusHydro has completed a complex modernization of the Maynskaya HPP. The company has completely replaced all the main equipment of the plant: generators, hydraulic turbines, transformers, switchgear. The work has been carried out under the Program of Complex Modernization of RusHydro hydropower plants. According to the Deputy CEO - Chief Engineer of RusHydro, the updated Mainskaya HPP should reach its design capacity of 321 MW. The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Khakassia Sergei Sokol, representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development of Khakassia, the management of the RusHydro branch - the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP named after P. S. Neporozhniy, equipment suppliers and contractors took part in the official ceremony.

Equipment from leading Russian manufacturers has been installed at the HPP, including Power Machines, ELSIB, and Voronezh Transformer. The updated automatic control system for hydraulic units, as well as the top-level process control system were created on the basis of domestically produced Prosoft-Systems controllers. JSC Gidroremont-VKK, a member of the RusHydro Group, carried out the installation of hydraulic units.

The Mainskaya HPP is located on the Yenisei River in Khakassia, downstream of the largest power plant in Russia - the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP - and serves as its counter-regulator. The reservoir of the Mainskaya HPP regulates water level fluctuations that occur when the regimes of the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP change. Thus, the most powerful HPP in Russia can, without consequences for water users downstream, change its capacity in accordance with the needs of the energy system. The installed capacity of the Maynskaya HPP is 321 MW. In total, since its commissioning, the Maynskaya HPP has produced over 50 billion kWh of renewable electricity.

Over 12 years of the PCM implementation, the increase in the installed capacity of RusHydro’s hydropower plants amounted to 613 MW, which can be compared to the appearance of another large HPP in the energy holding. 135 hydraulic turbines, 123 generators, 95 power transformers and over 10,000 units of auxiliary equipment have been replaced or modernized over this time.
